Modern Warfare 3 multiplayer gameplay will be revealed for the first time on September 2nd at ‘Call of Duty XP‘ – a event being held by Activision in LA. Call of Duty XP won’t just be the place that Modern Warfare 3 gets revealed at (along with the full suite of Call of Duty: Elite features), though. It’ll be a full-blown, two day Call of Duty-based convention showcasing Call of Duty games past, present and future.

Activision’s Eric Hirshberg said “This will be to Call of Duty fans what running through Willy Wonka’s factory would be like for kids,” so don’t expect this to be any half-assed event. ”When we decided to do this we went all in. There will be some pretty remarkable spectacle at this event.”
People, both at the event and those at home, are most likely to be interested in the opening ceremony which will be the Modern Warfare 3 multiplaer reveal, and the many consoles that will be available for attendees to get hands-on with Modern Warfare 3 multiplayer, but there’ll be much more for people to do at Call of Duty XP.
Activision will be building two real-world replicas of Modern Warfare 2 locations for people to battle it out on with paintball guns… like a “paintball theater” said Hirshberg. Scrapyard will be recreated at Call of Duty XP complete with fuselages that players can run through. Plus, the training map, The Pit, will also be there in all its real-world glory. Attendees will be able to to set times on The Pit with speed runs and get their name up on the leaderboards.
The 12-acre site will also have a number of other attractions, activities, panels and keynotes all catered to the Call of Duty connoisseur, including a Call of Duty armory and museum. If you get hungry after battling it out on Scrapyard and The Pit you can head over to Burger Town – a fictional Burger joint that will be familiar to anyone that’s played Modern Warfare 2 – that’ll be recreated for the event.

A 32-team bracket Call of Duty tournament with a $1 million prize co-sponsored by the Xbox 360 will also be one of the highlights of the event. Gamers will have a chance to qualify for the tournament before the event by playing Call of Duty: Black Ops multiplayer at regional promotions and competitions. The tournament will also have “select, on-site/at-large qualification.
There will also be some triple A talent doing live performances at the event.
Those not in attendance need not miss out. There’ll be a “free global digital experience for fans” that will include high production videos of key notes, panels, discussions and behind-the-scenes specials.
Tickets for the 2-day Call of Duty XP convention, which is being held on September 2nd – 3rd, will run to $150 and will cover everything except food. Tickets will be made available from July 19th here.
All profits from ticket sales will go to the Call of Duty Endowment, a non-profit set up by Activision to help veterans find jobs when they leave the service.
