The Call of Duty: Black Ops MLG Pro Circuit returns on June 3-5 in Columbus, Ohio! Come along as a spectator or a competitor, and watch as Dallas Champions Quantic Leverage attempt to defend their title. Can they take home another win, or will you put an end to their reign? To join the biggest weekend in gaming, check out the official MLG Pro Circuit info here:

For those of you in our Call of Duty: Black Ops community who might be unfamiliar with how a Pro Circuit Live Competition works, we’ve put together this handy guide that should explain everything from how to sign up, to why you should go, to what you should do when you get there. Take a look at everything you can expect to get from attending a Live Competition, get a team pass, and we’ll see you in Columbus!

1. What is a Pro Circuit Live Competition?

Playing online gives you plenty of chances to play against your friends, beat total strangers, and improve your skills, but there’s nothing like a live competition. An MLG Pro Circuit Live Competition is the ultimate place to be a gamer. Play for three days straight—you don’t even have to sleep if you don’t want to.

The MLG Pro Circuit currently has three main titles: Call of Duty: Black Ops for the PS3, Halo: Reach for the Xbox 360, and StarCraft 2 on PC. In 2011, we’re holding five Regular Season weekends, all leading up to a National Championship weekend that showcases the best of the best. And that could be you.

When you first walk into the venue you’ll see three giant Main Stages, one for each game; each surrounded by dozens upon dozens of gaming stations, promo booths chock full of free stuff, and special floor areas dedicated to special events, sneak previews of upcoming games, and tons more. You’re there to play, but there’s much, much more to do in between games—and you get to do it all surrounded by your fellow gamers.

Check out the Pro Circuit site for full information about MLG Columbus and background info about the Pro Circuit.

2. What do I get when I compete live?

Playing in person is totally different from playing online. There’s going to be a huge bracket of teams, and hundreds of spectators, all together in the same giant venue, all staying in the same hotel. Some of the best Call of Duty players in the country will be there, and you’ll get the chance to play against them. You’ll meet the people who were nothing but Gamertags to you before and get the chance to look them in the eye when you beat them.

Here are just a few of the things you can look forward to when you play Black Ops at a Pro Circuit Competition:

It’s a LAN, so there’s zero ping to worry about
You’ll have the chance to make a name for yourself and test yourself against the game’s best players
Three whole days of gaming: loads of tournament play, hours of free play if you happen to get eliminated, and tons of people looking for some after-hours LAN action each night.
All the best pro players got their start somewhere, and for Black Ops, Dallas is the beginning. Think you’ve got what it takes? Come and play for a chance to be one of the first pros ever to play Call of Duty: Black Ops, with all the fame, fortune, bragging rights and sponsorship deals that come with it. You could be the next Tsquared.
A shot at over $25,000 in prize money in Dallas and at each Regular Season Event.
Seeding for the National Championship at the end of the Season, where almost $150,000 in prizes will be awarded.

3. I play Black Ops on the Xbox 360. The Pro Circuit uses the PS3. Can I/should I play?

Yes! We will be using the PS3 and only the PS3 for Black Ops on the Pro Circuit, but if you’re used to playing on an Xbox, you can still play. MLG allows certain controllers (please see Question 4 below) that work with the PS3 but are very similar to the Xbox controllers you’re familiar with. This means you’ll be playing the same game you’re used to, and you’ll be competitive.

4. What can I bring to the Event?

We provide the PS3: you bring your controller. You can use a PS3 wireless controller, and you can use a POWER A Pro EX Controller, which will be very helpful for those of you who are used to playing on the Xbox 360.

For a full list of legal/illegal equipment, please see the MLG Equipment page.

5. How does the tournament work?

The Black Ops tournament is Open Bracket, double-elimination. The Bracket is seeded by Online Qualifier Rank Points; any team without those rank points will be seeded randomly.

Obviously, the number of tournament games you get to play depends on how well you do. You could go all the way to the top, but if you do get knocked out, don’t worry; there will be stations available for free play throughout the weekend.

6. What do I do once I get there?

When you arrive at the Venue on the day of the Event, just head to the check-in line. We’ll have your team pass reserved under your name and the MLG ID you used to buy it, and we’ll search for your name and give you your pass. Full details about what you need to bring to get into the Event (photo ID, etc) will be emailed to you once you buy a pass.

7. How do I register to play at MLG Columbus?

Put your team together and buy a team pass; you have to buy it online before the weekend of the tournament.

8. What do I do if I want to play but don’t have a team?

Easy: check out the forums to put a team together or find a team that’s looking for a player.

9. Can I play if I’m under 18?
