It looks like Treyarch will come good on the promise of Black Ops mod tools for the PC post-release.
Back in August, 2010, 3-months before Black Ops hit the shelves, Treyarch developer ‘pcdev’ alerted potential PC Black Ops gamers that “We [Treyarch] plan to open the game up for modding sometime post-launch”. In the statement, pcdev also said that:
“There are some purely technical issues related to engine and internal tool enhancements that do not easily fit the mod tools paradigm. We have looked at it close enough to see that it is non-trivial and we will have to pick it up again post-launch.”Well, Treyarch have “picked it up post-launch” and confirmed via Twitter that “We are shooting for mod tools release in May”. Although no other details were provided at this time it looks like the modding community may be able to get stuck into building new Black Ops maps in the near future.
